Cyprus and the lack of cycling

Here I lie, flat out on a sunbed in 28 degree heat staring out at the sea with bugger all to do and if I’m honest quite wishing I was out on the bike somewhere.
Having seen a few places around and about that would be great for off roading I’m very tempted to bring the mtb out with me next time, even with the oppressive heat out here I recon if I was up and out by 6am I could get a couple of hours ride in before my brain started to boil.
It’s a toss up between the road bike or the mtb the downside of the road bike is that it’s more than likely I would have to be scraped up from the road and placed in a bin bag as the drivers out here are beyond belief, still maybe it’s a better option than lying prostrate on a sunbed slowly burning alive?

Weight loss has gone out of the window this last week with so many binges I’m surprised I’ve not exploded in a shower of kebabs and moussaka, the ritual out here is to eat and eat and eat until you can feel the muscle of the heart poking through your chest wall, all this at about 10 at night to be followed by a slow walk back to your bed to let it sit in your guts all night festering and increasing the strain on every organ in your body until daybreak when you can repeat the process again.
Back tomorrow so this will all be a distant memory and I can get on with my obsession of losing weight again. Hay ho

Cyprus is a gonna, back to the grind

Having had a great holiday and I recon on the face I have not put on any weight which is always a good thing considering that I haven’t done a great deal of exercise only swimming and the odd run, on the other hand I have watched the food and beer intake which can only be a good thing?

Anyhow it’s time to get back on the bikes and clock up some mileage as I don’t have too long before my first MTB race in about 20 years, I was training pretty hard prior to the holidays so hopefully  this two week rest has been pretty good for the old bones and joints to recoup.

Going to hit the MTB more than the roadie for the next couple of weeks to build up some stamina for the race I have managed a flying 18 miles off road which is roughly the race distance or so it say’s on the entry forms, this I managed quite well for an old duffer with an average of approx 12/13 mph although this was part on road and relatively easy terrain I’m hoping to finish with a half decent time, we shall see?
